Links Art Trail Catalogue Text
The story of Ron Duckoldson Swan starts in the window of "Call me Madam" (472 Victoria St, North Melbourne). Ron can be found in various places in people's lives including cyberspace…and is behind the banners the banners and small sculptures which can be found throughout North and West Melbourne's streets and laneways during the Links art trail. Cathy wants people to get to know Ron and empathise with his fears and insecurities. Through Ron's honesty, the viewer may understand parts of themselves better and also…laugh a little by what is an essentially silly premise - a tyre swan on a therapist's couch. The free sculptures exist to break down barriers of ownership, particularly of art, which is out of reach for many people. Cathy hopes people will enjoy Ron's presence in their lives during the festival, and that the free sculptures are found and enjoyed by their new owners.
This artwork can be seen at Call me Madam and at numerous locations in the streets of North and West Melbourne. Ron is also starring at Fat Face Food located at 133 Dryburgh St, North Melbourne where he sips lattes in the courtyard.
