STATS |
|
Ron is very proud to be making his panniers in Australia. Materials are very carefully chosen from the following criteria:
1. source reclaimed (unwanted/ discarded) though usually brand new materials.
2. be as environmentally "friendly" as possible.
3. be made in Australia. This isn't merely flag waving, it's about trying to ensure your pannier hasn't used up much oil by the time it gets to your bike.
Actual materials used (Australian made materials in bold):
RECLAIMED: Bag body - reclaimed awning canvas, offcuts or roll ends (some made in Australia, others printed in Australia) , Bag inner - pvc discards , pocket - pvc discards , Inner Backing Board - pvc board , polyester shockcord
NEW: bag back - cotton/poly canvas, polyester YKK zip , plastic buckles, polyester webbing and binding , 3M reflective tape, stainless steel eyelets , stainless steel bolts, nuts & washers, woven label, aluminium pannier hanger system, cardboard box (from 100% recycled paper) | |

Ron has selected 5 colours that will be available for the foreseeable future (remembering we use offcuts etc). These are shown on the SHOP page.
From time to time, there will be other colours you can choose.
You can also choose to spend a little more and get a truly magnificent Vintage canvas pannier. They will have a special section in the Shop soon. |

BOLTS:
Remember to keep your bolts tight. They are like any other bolt on your bicycle and need to be periodically checked for safety. Your pannier hanger will continue to work well only if the bolts are tight.
FABRIC:
If you get caught in a downpour, hang up your pannier to dry at your destination. Remove dry dirt with a soft brush. Everynow and again, soak your bag in warm water and lightly brush dirty patches.
PROOFING:
The canvas has a factory proofing already. We don't add another layer in order to cut down on unnecessary chemical use. Even unproofed canvas is naturally water resistant as the fibres swell when wet. The reclaimed PVC inner will keep out any dampness that may get through the canvas. When the rain stops beading on the canvas, however, it may be time to reproof. Protective sprays are available from any good camping store. |
